What amazes me is that the people of actual SDCC LOVE this show. The convention has presented them with some kind of award at least two of the last three years (and when I saw award, I basically mean someone who works for the con comes out and thanks them and gives them a shirt, but that doesn't happen very often).…

You are not alone. Jessica Chastain elevated that film, but everything else felt like it could have easily been a movie of the week on TV or an HBO special or something.

There are four other Best Picture noms that also didn't get Directing noms. That's kind of how this "more than 5 nominees for best picture" thing works.

He's actually great in that film - it helps that the fact that Bradley Cooper usually seems like has has underlying anger issues actually applies to his character for once, but he really is great in this.

It aired during SDCC's pilot preview night, and I expected to love it based on all the buzz, but was pretty disappointed. It felt like something that would have been better suited to a movie than a TV show, as I just don't really know if the premise is really strong enough to sustain even 15 episodes of TV a season…
