The lacky of 'whimsy tra la la bullshit' is really my biggest issue with the later Moffat seasons, there's just gradually been a sense of fun and adventure draining from the show.

My rankings go…

EWW! I just pictured Sylvester McCoy posing half naked!

Especially given how in love he was with his own current incarnation by that stage.

I don't hate Sim's portrayal of him as much as everyone else seems to, and really given how over the top Tennant and Smith can be at times, it's not really as if he's any worse.

Or the unbridled garish libido of Colin Baker.

The key difference between 6 and 9 was they had an in story reason why 9 was so troubled and grumpy, and made it part of the story and season long character development.
As opposed to 6, who just seemed to be sullen, arrogant, insufferable and petulant because….5 was too nice?

Agree with this. It would only have complicated what already had a lot of groundwork to lay out for newer viewers.
Get to the in depth stuff later once viewers are hooked.

It really didn't help that the actress they got didn't really carry the menace the antagonist needed.
I don't want to be too mean, because she's like a kid, but she's the worst child actor I ever saw.

They were H,G Wells' martians, just with personality and plotting, at least that seems the most obvious genesis of their concept.

But I do love it.

UK TV GOLD!
The movie is literally the last Who related thing I got to because of the reason it was never available and everyone said it wasn't worth bothering with.

Stinks like yesterday's kippers.

Yes this. RTD was definitely more interested in the developing of characters and emotions between the Doctor and everyone he encountered, whereas under Moffat it's mainly restricted to being between him and the companions.
It worked with the Ponds, but little else, and in a sense you almost feel 11 is a little less in

My favorite were the Wirrn from Ark In Space. The creature effects are so bad it undermined the episode's menace.

Ack. Bloody hell that episode makes me madder than a march hare.

I think by the end RTD and 10 had written themselves into a corner and it was time for a change of direction and feel.

Hmmm, have to make a note of this idea and report it back to Blighty over the Christmas break.

That's a matter of opinion on whether that's 'singing'.

What's the difference?
