I think Williams is better at emotional acting than Dunham. Her instinct seems to be to go broader with her reactions, which isn't always appropriate.

I've really not liked how them expanding on Adam has made him into too much a head case this season. He was more fascinating as a sometimes douchey ass with some issues then he was completely broken.

I think a lot of this perception is how much you enter into the comments on the reviews. 
Just skimming a couple over the last few weeks and this debate and back and forth arguing comes up a lot.

Out of touch with who though? Isn't that entirely a matter of perspective to what the viewer thinks relates.
