My weird observation: one of Lynch's signature movie moves is having someone explain to a listener (and the audience) their dream and it serves as some sort of disjointed thesis statement for the rest of the movie. In the finale of Mad Men, the director tried this very thing (in the hippie therapy group) with some

Yeah what the hell happened to Gen Y?! I was born in 1973, so am squarely a Gen Xer. But my sister was born in 1976, and she is definitely a different generation than me. For a long time those born from 1976 through maybe 81 were Gen Y, and the Millennials were those born in the early 80s going forward (i.e., those

If you read an "explanatory blog" and concluded the story "is really not complicated," you're doing it wrong. It is purposefully obtuse and complicated, and there's no one correct "answer" or interpretation. If you (or a blogger) believes they've found some simplistic explanation, then they (or you) are missing the

Yeah, right? This is a strange one.

This, yes. Her voice is so difficult to get my head around. And this despite the beautiful musical compositions. It's a lot like death metal or black metal, I suppose. If you can learn to love the growls and screams, there's some damn good music there.

Newsom's compositions are undeniably gorgeous, but damn I really have trouble with her vocals. It's like she's singing children's songs. She can sound just kinda silly, and for me it ruins an otherwise great tune.

GodDAM Spiderwebs is still a banger to this day. What a killer track.

This is the most important life lesson I've ever learned here at the AV Club.

I agree Skull Kid. I read this show as being anti-faith.

All I could do was wonder whether you could actually put the bones and all into the meat grinder. Wouldn't that destroy it?

Huh? Where is your information coming from Spuddie? I've seen absolutely NOTHING to suggest that the shoe didn't come from Rye. To conclude otherwise, I think, is looking for something that isn't there. I think the "UFO" thing was a plot device that led Rye out into the road to get hit by the car. It doesn't

    That's a fair point.

Season 6 is SEVERELY f'd up. ASP bags on Season 7, but nothing that happens in Season 6 is remotely consistent with the characters she had written thus far.

It was a no-win situation. Fans of the show are so fiercely protective of it that they weren't going to be happy with any reviewer who was willing to point out the (MANY) flaws in that show. I'm a fan. Seen the whole thing. But come ON it is a seriously flawed show. I too would like to see the final four seasons

Hi. I'm a guy from even further in the future! I love this freaking show!

I'm further in the future! Luke is playing both ways. He is a defensive back and also a second running back when they run the wildcat or spread option plays.

I'm probably way late to the party on this, and I apologize if someone has asked this elsewhere, but John have you only seen this first episode? Or have you seen the first 4 episodes, as many critics seem to have? I ask because your read of Kirsten Dunst's character seems much more fulsome than what was presented in

Clearly the spambot isn't helping anyone with their grammar …

I watched that entire, VERY lengthy, trailer for Billions in rapt attention because of the star power and its cool look and feel … and I still don't have a freaking clue what the show is going to be about.

Correction: and each of them brings a 12-pack.
