@avclub-c30b17b451a2d904d45a4c895dbd4a62:disqus I also don't particularly care for Dogfight, although it wasn't bad. I've listened to the album a few times on Spotify and like "Pretty Funny" a lot, but I still don't really get it. I have a lot of friends who loved it, though.

I hesitate to use the word "genius" to describe any of those shows, quite honestly, although I liked all of them and loved some of them. Urinetown is a brilliant show, but are Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis geniuses? I guess I just have a problem using that word. I don't know if I could call any musical theatre composer

Completely agree, about Giant. Four hours is probably too long, but I can't help thinking another 15 or 20 minutes would've helped give the material more room to breathe and grow. But I loved everything that was there. I wish I had seen the four-hour version of it.

The number about TV shows getting canceled was written by Michael John LaChiusa, a terrific composer. He had a show at the Public Theatre this year, Giant. If it had been produced on Broadway, he would've won the Tony for Best Score instead of Cyndi Lauper. In my opinion, it was the best musical of the season.

Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof also wins Tonys, although of course it didn't this year. (Clearly voters just hated that production.)

That Rock of Ages announcement was awful. It's interesting, re-reading this review, I'm remembering how many moments made me cringe, but my overall impression of this year's Tonys is quite positive.

It seems to be very much an audience show. In a way, Kinky Boots beating Matilda reminds me of Avenue Q beating Wicked. Although of course, Avenue Q had the rave reviews and critical backing, which Kinky Boots does not, really.

I liked Matilda, but I don't think I would use "work of genius" to describe it. It's smart, well-directed, well-designed entertainment. It's not Sweeney Todd or Sunday in the Park with George, IMO.

They needed Patti LuPone to perform in order to get the orchestra back in the pit. (For anyone who doesn't know, the year Gypsy performed on the Tonys, Patti LuPone refused to perform with a backstage orchestra. She insisted it be in the pit.)

Coneheads was great when I was ten. I imagine I wouldn't find it great now.

I've seen this movie before but for some reason forgot Geena Davis is in a bikini? Clearly I need to find a blu-ray.

I am so happy that Will asked him about that! I've always loved that episode, and it really is one of the top ten or fifteen Voyager episodes.

I would love to hear Gerrit Graham talk about my favorite one-season wonder, Now and Again.

I think I've said this before on this site, but I am honestly surprised whenever I watch that movie with friends and everyone else doesn't have all the jokes memorized. Like, it shocked me when my roommate told me he's only ever seen it twice.

@Roswulf:disqus Yeah, that third act really got under my skin. I agree, the play could use some cuts, specifically in the second act, but I have a feeling that those will be made before the New York production opens in August. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it again.

I was going to mention this. Although…I hate to say this, because I think you should enjoy art however you want, but I think you missed the point of the play. It's not about watching a real life game of telephone, where the message gets more and more garbled, although that is in it.

I can't find it at any bays, e or otherwise! Amazon seems to be the only place that acknowledges it exists, and they don't have any in stock. No other shopping website lists it, and of course it's not at any physical retailer.

The original theatrical version was 115 minutes. The cable/Netflix version (which Bogdanovich oversaw) is 118 minutes, and you're right - some songs were deleted and others were added in. This version (Bogdanovich's final version) is apparently 124 minutes, according to press releases. I guess we'll find out what is

I don't know, I would love to see all four of the leads get their introductory songs, as they were supposed to have originally.

Have you seen this director's cut? It's significantly longer than the cut Bogdanovich prepared for cable (and has been available on Netflix.) I thought he made this version specifically for BD, and no one has seen it yet.
