Oooooh, nice. I do Chinese history, but haven't gone nearly enough into the artistic side of things. Plus, pictures!

Then it's time for him to come clean AGAIN, dammit!
For me the best thing about Prometheus was that things were unexplained- it was a quest for answers in which no meaningful ones were forthcoming. That to me was essentially the point of it, and there's plenty in the film that contributes to that theme. But for that reason, I was pretty shocked when it suddenly ended…
It would only be how he wanted to die after the events of Ozymandias- except for the not getting caught part, I guess. Up till everything went wrong in the desert, there's no way he would've wanted to end like that.
Yeah, I'm still not sure about Felina. I suspect it was my brain hyping it up or expecting something more… unexpected, but it felt very good rather than great.

The joke
Oh, man. Now I'm all sad.
Aside from the question of whether Dexter is suffering, the actual fake-your-own-death-and-go-lumberjacking decision was both selfish and stupid. Just in the last episode we were supposed to believe that he didn't even need to kill anymore. Then the fact that his sister got accidentally shot because of that decision…
I saw them live at a festival this year and during the last song (All I Want To Do Is Rock) the guitar guy actually climbed up the side of the stage feedbacking his guitar. Not what I was anticipating from Travis.
Well you've just killed the chances of that happening. But as long as nobody replies to you, I think we can score it as a draw.
Blue Flashing Light was the one I was thinking of. Oddly I don't recall it being loud, though- I remember the vocal and I think my head filled in an acoustic backing.
"with Jianlin reportedly spending more than $2 million alone just to get
DiCaprio there, in addition to the snacks promised Travolta"
With you on the fascination thing. For me the weirdest thing is how they systematically sucked all the tension and stakes out of the show in its final season. I mean, look at the consequences of the end of season 7.
Yeah, I thought that too and it might actually have been excellent. Bring the ending people expect in a very quick and unexpected way…
Oh God, you just made me realise that you could interpret the entire ending as Dexter cunningly finding someone else to raise his son now that Jaimie's going away… "yeah, sure, see you in Argentina or wherever".
The shark still has value as a single non-redeemable moment, though. I'm not sure Dexter had one of those. It just kept getting worse fairly consistently.
To be fair, if they'd executed that personal journey well it might have worked. There is something to be said for avoiding the obvious. Although as I said up the thread, in this episode they had the perfect opportunity to pull the 'Dexter gets caught' ending out of nowhere, which would have been a fun way to do it.
"I found the episode compelling partly because there was so little voiceover and no Ghost Harry to explain what Dex was thinking. Was that deliberate to ditch those devices? Should you have done that sooner?"
