Heart of Saturday Night has always struck me as his most immediately listenable early album, but I'm a real sucker for melancholy.

I don't have a favorite album, but Alice and Heart of Saturday Night get the most play in my house. Bone Machine probably the least (but it is still played).
Futurechimp, I also can't dismiss your perfectly cromulent enjoyment. Perhaps this will embiggen us all!
His greatest strength is getting people to talk about him …
There's no mystery there. The woman looks like a human preying mantis.
@ Flaubert - no, no, I didn't mean to imply disagreement. I was merely trying to add to your statement and invlove myself in the coversation. I think I understood what you were saying.
Flaubert, I like to think I have a fairly high tolerance of self-indulgent self-referencial art (i.e. I like Matthew Barney). But Koons really rubs me the wrong way. And I realize that he "conceptualizes" the pieces himself or whatever, but the fact that he rarely is the actual creator of most of the work also…
Oh man Steve. Small Town Romance is amazing. His was definitely one of my top concerts over the last few years.
@ Dbag, yeah I really did like it the best of these three. I don't know that I can explain why in any sort of rational terms, but it swept me in unlike the other two. Of course, as I said I haven't finished with BoB, so I may feel differently then and I may feel differently when I revisit the Pacific.
Yeah, I was similarly underwhelmed by SPR. Band of Brothers was good but not immediately engaging. I watched it on dvd and actually haven't yet finished it. I've been sidelined by Mad Men and Breaking Bad.
Agreed. She's a wonderful songwriter and seems quite nice. And not as burdened by her father's legacy as you might expect.
Christ. I know, "heard". Curse you early morning drinking!
You've at least herd Seven Year Ache though, right? I think of her as Gillian Welch before Gillian Welch was Gillian Welch. I often mistake them for each other in the first few notes of their songs. Definitely check out her music.
Ok, that's what I'm getting if I win the lottery. A zombie horse. With a jaunty hat.
How do we know they are spooked by zombies? Has anyone done research on this? Although, on a side note the horse my sister had was spooked by yellow hats, so … I guess as long as the zombie was hatless I'd be fine?
Just out of curiosity Dr, when you say "main", do you mean "only"?
That wasn't funny, but then you replied to yourself and it WAS funny.
They're doing a "Highlander reboot"?
How have I missed this information and why don't I give a shit?
I'd like to congratulate Sean on the first susccessful conveyance of deadpan that I've seen in comment form. Nicely done, sir.
Howard the Duck was so bad, it was scary. This too will be bad, but my guess is less scary.
