Are you in Austin, TNP?

I don't get this distaste for / ambivalence towards the Beach Boys.

Fuck land

Justpassingby and I seem to disagree markedly on the definitions of cute and gorgeous.

Ellie, Nail, Head.

I think it's that the quality of the movies that surround the "Diane Keaton" character has decreased markedly.

I like Requiem well enough, but it doesn't deserve the kind of fawning admiration I see bandied about for it. Pi was pretty great, but I assumed that the Fountain was the end of his worthwhile creative output.

I kinda like Eckhart. Dude does smug really well.

That mouth only needs to open for one reason …

I, for one
will never respect that prat Terence Praet. Roseanne was a good, and fairly groundbreaking, sitcom, and between that and his great work with the Coen Bros. (Lebowski, O Brother, Raising Arizona … Barton Fucking Fink!), Goodman would be one of my nominees for a lifetime pass. But to each their own, I guess.

I don't feel any sympathy for Nabin. He made this choice of his own volition, and if he is besieged by Dane Cook fever dreams for the remainder of his days … well, he has no one to blame but himself.

Fuck, Jorge, you reminded me of how much I miss home.

Dog Soldiers
Suh-weeeet!

Ermm because he's "usually cerebral?" I mean, I totally agree that Schreiber is a good actor (as does the reviewer, I gather), but he hasn't made his name playing villains and he doesn't exactly cut an imposing figure.

Which is, if you think about, a positive message!

I was right there with you, up until you dissed Bret Easton Ellis. Some of his stuff can be a little masturbatory, but not on remotely the same level as Toback, and Less Than Zero earns him a lifelong pass in my book.

I'm a little disappointed that NCC won't expose me to anything new next month, but all of the selections are awesome.

See, I thought the violence in Ichi was so over the top that it was comical. It was gory, and I'm usually not down with too much of that, but it looked so fake that it seemed more outlandish than anything else.

Word, Josh. I jumped out of my skin during the phone / bag scene. I've never been more on edge during a movie.

Tetsuo is one of the craziest movies I've ever seen, but does it really fall into the same genre as Pulse or Ringu? It's far more fantastical and fetishistic than a lot of the stuff referenced here; fewer "jump out of your seat" shocks and more "how much of this can you stomach". Creepy and fucked up, though, for sure.
