Everybody knows that Nielsen ratings are skewed toward suburban middle class family types with 2.5 kids an SUV and a dog. Lots of people watch his shows, just not the people all advertisers are aiming for, or the kind of people that become Nielsen families. I've never watched an episode of Dollhouse on my TV at the

Hillarious. 30 Rock is the best comedy on television, nay mabye the best show on television right now. I laughed and laughed.

Cultural references are about 1/8th of what makes 30 Rock funny. Saying so means you havn't been paying attention while you watch it.

@nakedfoul

30 Rock is a fundamentally different show than the Office. It gets its humor from ideas rather than character.

Pastrami is the most erotic of cured meats.

Currageous, I have read the criticism in the AV Club of 30 Rock, and since that was the subject of my post, I guess I do know what the hell I'm talking about.

Character Development? Really?
Criticizing 30 Rock for lack of character development is like criticizing Fringe because it doesn't have enough jokes. It's not The Office. It's jokes are based on ideas. The characters of 30 Rock change to fit the joke. That isn't a weakness. It's just the format of the show.

African American men have a much better chance of survival in Whedon shows than say, a person in a happy relationship. No one on a Whedon show has less chance of survival than a gay man. There's only been one unabiguously gay man on a Whedon show, and he got killed by a giant snake. So we're at %100 fatalities for

He seems like a bit of a House MD of comedy. He's really good at it, very disciplined, and tells the truth about what he thinks. It's easy to confuse honesty for abrasiveness.

Speaking as a nearly middle age gay, I have to say I find Jenna's extreme narcism and D list celebrity desperation pretty funny. It would be nice if she had a few human moments, but I don't know if that would spoil the funny.

I just don't get what people are talking about either. I didn't see the drop in quality that everyone claims happened during season 3, and I don't get how a show that has millionaire executives talking about laser shields, and moving black plastic bags containing reef sharks is somehow tired.

It was so smart too. The republican executive demanding that everyone appeal to 'real Americans' by eating toxic junk-food is the furthest thing from real Americans. Most of the jokes were on-theme. Does anyone realize how hard that is to write like that? I'm flumoxed by the negative critical reaction to this

Why do you like Jay Leno so much? Why are you so offended by 30 rock comparing him to singing a country western song about off-season tennis? I guess that was a little harsh of Tina Fey.

Awesome brilliant episode.

Why insult gay men by comparing them to FOX, Buckethead Wendy?

Yeah, but even the stand-alone shows are about something. I haven't watched another show this week about which the same thing can be said. How many times have you seen an action/comedy/drama that explores how women are treated as objects.

I think the worst thing Dollhouse has done is that it has somehow set up audience expectation that it be realistic. In Buffy, Angel, and Firefly there was evidently a more clear line between their ficticious world, and the real world. Whedon and team haven't tacitly asked permission for the suspension of our

Ballard wanted Echo to kick ass. He knew what would get her to that point, and he was willing to risk his life, and his morality to get her there.
