Just like you can be racist or sexist or homophobic without explicitly saying that being a racial minority or a woman or a homosexual is "wrong or forbidden," the same applies to transphobia.
If they're throwing shade at him by saying he's an asshole for not standing for the pledge of allegiance, they're offended like every person shouting on TV about it.

Actually, by the end of the episode, they land on what ever conclusion comes naturally. They've said in interviews that they don't always agree with the ending of the episodes themselves.
