I just got a little peeved at the end that Meyer's tepid BS does such good box office. Yeah Private Benjamin's good (although Eileen Brennan makes the movie for me), but What Women Want? Crap. And my citing the reasonable discussion has more to do with a comment that has since been deleted.

An actual reasonable discussion
In that we talk about Sundance films. I'm excited about a new Holofcener. I find her films a breath of fresh air in plot, theme, and style. I hate to box her in as a "women's" filmmaker, but they're aren't enough women directors making movies where (as I noted on a previous entry) the

Yeah I could hardly believe it when I read that they just talk about the men in their lives. Great job reinforcing a huge problem with film in general Wardrop, woman without any lives of their own, just ones refracted through men. It's already rampant in narrative film and here we go with a documentary.

I wasn't feeling tonight's ep much until the heartfelt speech. So much better than trashing the set or trotting out characters. Wonderful.

The truly ridiculous aspect is that the TV commentator that implies that Weir hurts men's skating because he's too gay pings very loudly on my gaydar as well. As does Evan Lysacek, Weir's "nemesis" who also criticizes Weir for his flamboyance.

I'm 35 and therefore just beyond the age-range that Hyden postulates, so perhaps my habits are not relevant to the hypothesis. I've gone through periods of non-watching due to being too busy for TV in general, but found during the Late Show wrap-up that I saw most of the "best of" bits they showed and even sorely

They've only waived them for some some groups, not all that are responding. Doctors Without Borders (Noble Peace Prize, go where others won't) aren't even on the waived fee list. The credit card banks are still bastards. More public pressure on them please.

Not exactly Lemur. Partners in Health have been on the ground in Haiti for years and have some infrastructure with which to work. Red Cross is good in a disaster, but Partners in Health have been there and will be there long after RC is gone.

I recommend text donating and NOT donating via credit card. The phone companies are waiving their charges on Haiti donations, but the credit card companies are not waiving their transaction fees on donations meaning they're pocketing a percentage of every donation. Bastards.

I'm with Claudia, if anything there needs to be many *more* books that summarize and synthesize recent research for general audiences. Yay for combating anti-intellectualism.

It's fantastic and rewards multiple readings (try "reading" it without looking at the text the second time through). David Mazzuchelli is the bee's knees.

Uh Huh, it wasn't a flop, it just wasn't the expected Capra success (the flop story makes for a nice myth though). It was also nominated for multiple Oscars though it didn't win any. The whole thing about it becoming popular because of constant runs on local channels is right on.

Though I loved her best, I knew Ellenore wouldn't win, figured she'd be third though. Kathryn not in the top two was a heartbreaker for me. Once that happened, I knew Russell would take it. Though it's not even mostly his fault, I found the "untrained street dancer" story to be increasingly grating as it clearly

Hooray!
This so deserved a wide-release. Wonderful.

The hiphop and ball trios in the first episode were particularly fun and challenging. After that:
Noelle and Russell - Frogdance
Top 16 Dave Scott "Warriors"
Ellenore and Ryan - Travis routine set to that glorious Stars song
Top 14 Wade Robson "Aha!"
Ashleigh and Jakob - Sonja, slow lyrical something
Ellenore and Ryan -

Favorite routines of the season
What are your's?

Oh hey, that plays into my theory on Nigel and Adam wanting Kathryn, Mary wanting Russell. Faint praise for Ryan and Ashleigh, middling for Ellenore, "you should be in a company" for Jakob, and gushing for the desired winners.

Ha, I thought the same thing Weaseltease. Must have been the similar leopard-print outfit on the ladies.

Austin, yes
It's called the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, it's 30-something years old, and it's a big deal in town. The nominal fee is worth it just to see the music acts (it's Austin, of course there's live music), a variety singer-songwriter/country/folk/blues-type stuff that's not all that popular with the kids, but

What was weird about the medical aspects of Echo's plan was that she said something like "I'm giving her mannitol. It's an osmotic diuretic that will lower her ICP," which is true, but then everything else medical about the sequence was wrong. Sometimes I wish I could be a medical adviser on TV shows and movies, but
