I've found the key to enjoying Marvel comics from that time period is reading them in Stan Lee's voice, and realizing that he's hyping the story even as he's telling it to you. It's all just sort of a carnival barker's patter, drawing you in, and gliding you past the less—plausible moments.

I remember comments from the producers before the introduction of the Dominion that they would be an Anti-Federation, but one where each race was super-specialized for a particular role. I remember the example being that it was as if all of the soldiers were Klingon and all of the scientists were Vulcan, etc.

@olivececile:disqus , I think the Machine means she's pretending to be the type of girl class-wise, not temperament-wise. (Like saying that Cinderella, post fairy-godmother is pretending to be the kind of girl who goes to balls.)
