Well, Maeve did exhort Bernard to get the whole story before they parted. Something tells me that, even though Bernard didn't end up outsmarting Ford in the end, he wrung more of the truth from him than ever before.

While he certainly didn't outmuscle Superman, Frank Miller's Batman basically won by being more ruthless and insane than Superman, which, really, isn't much better than outmuscling in the end.

Witch-like, yes, but with her penchant for powders and potions, I consider her more of an 'herbalist' style witch-doctor type witch than 'magic and broomsticks' type of witch.  Most anything else she did besides potion-ing was weird Alzheimer word salad style divination and clairvoyance, which is certainly very soft
