It's just Bitches Brew, but it's one hell of an album.

So, am I supposed to read something into the fact that you called my sexuality into question over my stated tastes in music?

That's a good point. It's probably a purely aesthetic consideration: I don't like the way it sounds compared to those other affected styles. That isn't to say I'm a fan of insincerity in other genres, but when some pop-country fool in a cowboy hat starts faking a Texas accent, it doesn't sound ugly to me.

I've never heard of Del being a particularly racist person, so it would never occur to me to accuse him of it. If he were a racist, though, I think it would be worth mentioning. You seem to disagree, but I get the impression that you don't think racism is a big deal.

They don't represent "worthwhile" metal, per se. I never meant to suggest that Dethklok was the pinnacle of achievement in the genre. If I were of a mindset to appreciate the basic premises of metal (the arrangements, the lyrical norms, the emphasis on technical virtuosity, etc), I could probably investigate and…

@avclub-ca157d1a1382fd3eb266129b96bdba74:disqus , I disagree. I don't think indulging in a little irony now and again is a waste of time. My music library is in fact particularly earnest and un-ironic. But Dethklok is in there, and when I cycle through my albums every year I like to take however long it lasts and…

Surely he only meant to pay homage to Dawes? Even a sad fellow like Gibbard can't resist the joyful charms of That Sweet, Sweet Laurel Canyon Sound.

I have the first Dethalbum, and I'm not ashamed to cop to the big cliche: I listen to it ironically. I'm willing to listen to most genres, but I'm on the record damning the entire metal genre as bullshit music for self-absorbed and insincere people. I'm perfectly aware that this is both hyperbolic and hypocritical,…
