I just read the FAQ, and may I say fuckin' bravo for doing away with numbered scores?  Because I'd really like to.  I've been railing against them since before it was cool, back on the old Game Informer forums.  Metacritic's a red herring; at the end of the day, you just can't quantify this stuff.
