That's not the first time. He meets her at the train station. We've seen that moment in other episodes, I think.

This format change would last all of one episode on Community. Abed notices the audience laughing and wanders off set. #metameta

If David Spade can have a sitcom for 8 years that nobody noticed, Community can come back.
Your comment got me thinking: The show went from being a sitcom set in an office to an office-themed sitcom to a comedy with office garnishes. Now, there's also a quality metric there that dropped but I think maybe that charts the accessibility of shows.

This show was supposed to be the British Office with "10% more hope." That was the initial high concept pitch.

I think that's part of how you make the show serious again. It involves making people more grounded, a bit less likable, bringing back up flaws they'd overcome. Making things less happy and hopeful.

Turns out to be Kevin. The only person who Angela hates more is Kevin. We'll see they had a secret affair longer than Angela and Dwight and they'll hook up in the most unhappy, miserable, cynical, anxiety-producing "justice of the peace" wedding the show could produce by season's end. :-D

So similar to BNL, I don't think Community will achieve the heights it did under Harmon but I suspect the lows will be less low and the average quality may be as good as it ever was.
