They used to have fun with the product placement, everything was done with a wink.  Everybody seems to be going through the motions now.  After Drag Race All-Stars I'm probably done.  It's sad what LOGO is becoming, especially since RuPaul helped take it to the next level.

I lost my drive to keep up with RuPaul's Drag Race.  The lifeless new segment where the ladies pick everyday fashions was pointless except for product placement. The contestants either had very little to overcome, or else they were completely damaged and should not have been on TV.  (Cringe-worthy moment: Shannel

If Tyler Perry would include a claymation scene in one of his family comedies, I could definitely see an overlap.  I could also see that girl from "Madea's Big Happy Family" who says "Byraaaaaaaaaaann" appearing in a Miike film.

I agree with you on all of those except Cimmaron.  I really liked it!  There was ethnic diversity and sympathy for the Indians, which were rare prior to the 50s.  Talking pictures tended to be quite boring until mid-1931 but this one had a great sweep to it, although much of that was due to the writing rather than the

If I'm at the movie theater and really stoned, I like the trailers where they give away the whole plot.  It makes me feel like I saw five whole movies back to back!  Also when I was stoned, I loved the trailer for "The Devil Wears Prada" which was just the scene where Meryl Streep appears at the office for the first

Yes, "Carmen Jones" is awesome, but there is a whole evening of rarely screened Dorothy Dandridge films tonight on TCM.  "Bright Road" is nice little film made the year before "Carmen Jones", though it shows up on TCM once or twice a year.  "The Decks Ran Red" is a difficult film to find on video, it has never had a

Pom Poko covers an incredible amount of plot, thematic concerns, and animation styles.  The raccoons are animated in three different styles (four if you count their brief 8-bit rendition)!  The fox is awesome!  I had raccoons living in my apartment's parking lot in downtown Los Angeles, and I felt I knew everything

Those are my two "Films Too Painful to Watch Twice" too!

I own the DVD, but I don't plan on ever watching it again.  The animation is supreme, but it is just too painful to watch adorable cartoon kids go through that.  It really left me raw for about a week.

I agree on both counts.  I took my husband to see Whisper of the Heart when it played recently, and I had no way of telling him what it's about ("A girl thinks a boy likes the same books as her! There's this fat cat who rides a bus who's awesome! There is just as much adventure to be had in the city as in the old days

The school kids running down stairs in "Only Yesterday" is incredible.  They really have momentum.  One kid runs too fast and hits the wall before turning 90 degrees.  Three girls do the twist.  The boy pitches a baseball and you really believe there's force behind it.  In my opinion, this is the stuff Takahata does

The Disney dub/subtitles refer to the scrotum as a "raccoon pouch", which would have left me completely confused if I hadn't already seen the Japanese domestic release.  (came back from China in 2003 with a treasure trove of bootlegs of then-unavailable Ghibli films)

"Only Yesterday" is also greatly improved when one is familiar with the films of Ozu, particularly the ones starring Setsuko Hara.  Takahata tips his hat to Ozu with the opening credits which resemble Ozu's late/color films.

I worked in a psych hospital in 2006, and there was young woman who believed that Tupac was the father of her baby.  She seemed to be middle class and college educated, but due to her schizophrenia we had very little background on her.  I first encountered her while she was reading "Dianetics".  She said she wanted to

The show seems to be losing its sense of continuity.  Remember Nick Newport Jr. and his photogenic children and their dog Shoelace?  He hasn't been mentioned at all this season, nor has Newport Sr.'s beauty queen wife Jessica Wicks.
