It got my interest back when they did briefly imply he was innocent, but that probably would work better for an original movie rather than betraying the basics of Freddy.

The original had Bacon and a great jump scare at the end, but the remake was… not awful. Not particularly memorable, but legions better than the Elm Street reboot. But getting a machete to the groin and fisted with Freddy's glove is better than the Nightmare reboot.
