You know there are many (probably too many) songs I truly love by The Eagles but Jesus Fuck are they fucking assholes…..

Me too and god help me

Very cool

This show is vastly underrated - an almost perfect sitcom, and perfectly cast. Just a personal note - as a kid I loved Johnny and hated Herb (I didn't "get" Herb) now as an adult I LOVE Herb (still Love Johny of course) but Herb is the man!

NEVER insult Hey Jude. My vote for best Beatles song

It's true. If you push the punk philosophy to it's logical end then no one should record, perform or even write music because the "wrong" people might listen to it… or any recording of it is a type of sell out…it's stupid… the worth of an piece of art is separate from how it was created

I agree what EXACTLY is wrong with the lyrics. Back it up with examples.

I guess I'm going to dissent here. He doesn't seem to have much of a reason for hating Piano Man other man it's played everywhere - it's popularity. This idea that if something is popular - it's bad - really is new - coming out of the 60's. If something was popular it was "establishment" or "the man" and had to be

no argument here

Couldn't agree more. Now I love Mad Men and Weiner won't do what Chase did. Chase really cared far too much that people liked Tony.

who says he is? they don't seem to have much in common to me

Absolutely. Best movie ever? When there's films by Kubrick, Welles, Bergman, Marty, Hitchcock, Kirosawa, Hell even Chaplin…

I just love him but the last couple of movies while technically accomplished FEEL slow to watch. Like the worst of Mallick and Kubrick (and Kubrick is my favorite filmmaker).

That makes total sense. There is a fundamental playfulness in Joyce - in the language, the storytelling, etc that is missing from most of the other modernists/post-modernists. Think of Wallace or Faulkner or Delillo - they aren't really "fun." And Pynchon despite what he thinks isn't that fun or funny. The exception

I totally agree. I don't mind "smart" authors. Joyce is my favorite author but there are many differences between the two. Yes Joyce has puzzles in his work however his work can be read without knowledge of these puzzles. His work is life affirming. I could go on. I feel like a lot of these "smart" authors after Joyce

Blood Meridian - The language was astounding, I got the point of the senseless violence but I just couldn't get into it.

wow. i'm speechless

The eternal recurrence is one of the more fascinating ideas of his for sure.

oh i forgot Charlie Chaplin!!!

Nice to find someone who loves Nietzsche
