FYI - Criterion released ARMAGEDDON (and THE ROCK) because Michael Bay paid them a handsome fee for the privilege, not because Criterion sought them out for inclusion.

I love how every found footage film is instinctively compared to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999) and not the most obvious forerunner, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1980). How about giving this (occasionally reprehensible— some indefensible animal cruelty in there) movie its due?
Growing up in the 80s in Central Texas, silent films were nearly impossible to see— they sure didn't run them on tv, and theatrical runs were unheard of, outside a few screenings of Abel Gance's NAPOLEON.

You'd be wise to add Danny Peary's CULT MOVIES books (there are 3, and his GUIDE FOR THE FILM FANATIC) to your library… they make a great balance to the more well-known Kael, Ebert, et al., and offer a great alternative perspective on some often-reviewed/reviled stuff. I admit to growing up…
Thanks for pointing out that Hedison was the lead, not Price… that mistake gets made every time someone writes about THE FLY, but it's certainly dispiriting to see it here (though I'd expect it in Entertainment Weekly); I stopped reading and scanned down to see if anyone had commented already (way to go, Zack).
Great List, but THE HARDER THEY COME?
Sort of legendary Jimmy Cliff thing…
