"A Bullet For The General" does rank up there. Gian Maria Volonte is great as usual, and hey, there's Kinski again.
The one-two punch of Ecstasy of Gold followed by the Trio, and then the hanging coda is an astonishingly great piece of film-making.
Kinski plays a hunchback and the match is lit off the hump.
Greatest of all time? Mmmmmmmmmmmayyyybe. I have a ton of spaghetti western soundtracks, and within that subgenre, nothing else tops it.
Its only major flaw is the goofy soundtrack, IMO. Otherwise it's pretty great.
Definitely watch it with the subtitles. It's like a completely different, way better movie.
If that's the worst you've seen, you probably haven't seen that many.
Silenzio is a good one. Kinski is great, the snowy setting is nice (though you can tell it's shaving cream in some scenes), a it's got a pretty awesome Morricone score, plus a host of familiar faces (Frank Wolff, Mario Brega and Luigi Pistilli), and to top it all off, Silenzio carries a Mauser Broomhandle.
I call bullshit. Jesus totally tapped Mary Magdalene.

The Marianas campaign wasn't covered either, and there seems to be a general lack of books on it, despite their strategic importance.
I have a huge gap in my reading, from Wake Island all the way up to Tarawa, so I'd really like to get some recs for that period.
For further reading
If this series piqued your interest, and you want to learn more about the Pacific war, there are tons of books out there. I've read a bunch, and I know others here have as well, so I thought I'd put up a thread where we could let each other know what's worth reading.
Shoot straight, ya bastards! Don't make a mess of it.
Breaker Morant.
Damn right Mr. Floyd. I would have liked the finale better if those fucking annoying jagoffs all went out in the most painful, degrading ways possible.
Eh, I thought "Revelations of the Black Flame" was OK. The new one is a lot better though.
