I think Tanya has been a bit sidetracked really - The breeders stuff was obviously great, and a couple of her solo albums are ok but nothing spectacular (IMHO). Kristin on the other hand has produced some absolute maserpieces. Obviously start with Hips and Makers, then The Grotto (with Howe Gelb and others). Strange

She'll never move him - likes it that way
he's just a walker, and he'll never
stop walking away.

Yeah - I love that album too - it managed to hover on that perfect line between Kristin's alterity, and Tanya's pop sensibility (which led to the fantastic first album by Belly). Counting Backwards is such a great first song, and Two Step is such a perfect way to end. I saw them twice, and have seen Kristin solo about

Yes! I am a bass player myself, and spent many many hours marvelling over some of the bass lines on House Tornado and the Eps. She has a fantastic technique and makes consistently suprising and unique choices. I have googled her many times, but she seems to have vanished.

God Throwing Muses were (are..ish) a fantastic band. House Tornado is still one of the most interesting, angular and powerful albums of that time period. And Kristin Hersh has been pioneering ways to interact with her fans, and exist independantly, for years. The CASH project has been very successful, and she is still

Plus I am in a grumpy mood today.

Hmm. I guess it is a b+ in terms of his body of work, but not in terms of movies generally. The mediocre movies that get a B+ on this site do not seem comparable to this.

B+. Seriously. I mean, if there were only 50 or so movies in the entire history of the medium which warranted an A grade, then maybe I could understand a B+ for this…Although reading the review it does seem you have no idea about Bunuel's history, techniques or what he attempts to do with the medium, so maybe the

This is the AV Club - comments on actresses looks are kind of compulsory! At least we are so far keeping it classy….(fapping comments in 3,2,1….)

No sexuality?! Have you seen the Silence? Anyway, I said 'perfectly beautiful' as I am not talking about sex, but a kind of objective structual/artistic perfection to her face. Perfection is often not sexy, and can feel a bit cold, but she remains stunning.

Agreed. I realised that my favourite Bergman movies are all with her - such an amazing actress, and I could just stare at that face all day.

Sometimes I think Ingrid Thulin may be the most perfectly beautiful woman I have ever seen.

Tender.

Agreed. I really don't like any of his other albums at all, but love every single note of that one (and TB Sheets - which I always pretend was on the album too).

I know. My son is nearly at the right age to start reading the Pooh books to him and I know already I will choke up at that point.

Most of Bresson's films are "perfect" I think, as he genius was in that controlled perfection. Mouchette is just wonderful and perfect in every way. It is funny - I have only seen L'Argent once and, while impressed, I was not in love. I think on a basic level I found the plot unmoving. Maybe I should re-watch it…

Aretha Franklin's version of "I say a little prayer" is perfect in every way. The orchestration, the lyrics, Aretha's singing, the Sweet Inspirations on backing vocals…Pop perfection. Some of Auden's poems - The Fall of Rome for instance - are perfect. Fauré's Requiem is perfect. I want the last thing I hear on this

Damn. I was just about to cast him as Sandy in my Grease re-boot.

God that is fantastic. Sad and funny and beautiful. Ray Wise needs to be in more movies.

Yes, the song is great - the purity of the voice, the urgency and suppressed drama of the chord progression. I always forget how avant-guard a lot of 80's synth music was at heart. Those sounds have become so over-used that they have lost the power to be recognised for what they are - machines tu(r)ned in service of
