Great point.  You seem like you might know some particulars…can you give me any kind of estimate on just how much a good (but seemingly not too revered) song like "Dancing With Myself" would cost to licence on the Square Pegs DVD which came out 25 YEARS after the show ended?

Let's get this out of the way early…I'm OLD (compared to your average AV Club enthusiast).  I actually remember when this show came on, and watched a few episodes.  Hey, it was better than "The Facts of Life" for 1982 tv choices.
