Yeah, I was late to the Discovery party, in spite of enjoying their radio hits for some time. It wasn't until I heard their Alive album that I got serious about Daft Punk. Discovery is a phenomenal album, one of the very best of its kind, and I am excited about this new one.

You might check out The Bank Job, referenced in Josh's review. Can't remember where it ranks on the charm scale, but he gives a solid performance in that one.

Mason & Dixon is my personal favorite Pynchon book, rich with real historical figures, surreal tangents, joaks, and above all Olde School Language. I hope no movie ever comes of it. It's best left in its rollicking novel form.
PTA could def. make a meal out of the historical aspects of Against the Day though, now that

Against the Day is a hoot! The first quarter is the best, plotwise, focusing on a dynamite-throwing anarchists vs. oil baron industrialists. The book meanders a bit later—even splits itself in two at one point—but there's always something to learn from TP's dry wit and in-depth research on things like the

Um, fair enough. I had a longstanding bias against M II. It was one of the first solo Beatles things I owned, and in the early 90s I could not get behind its synth grooves. In particular, the song Waterfalls used to really annoy me. Dunno why I was still harping on it in early 2011. I've certainly grown to appreciate

Funny thing is, I've been listening to a lot of Bad Religion over the last year and my wife will occasionally suggest that Graffin sounds like the lead singer of Great Big Sea. Ouch.

It'd take a Miracle of St. Ana to contribute anything fresh to this discussion.

If Sexual Healing is too on the nose, Miguel'd may as well have titled his album "Too On The Nose." Seriously, he's got a great R&B sound, but how could you get down to "Pussy Is Mine" without laughing? Of course, levity is always good.

Still, in a recent discussion on Cosmic Americana on this site, one commenter urged No Other as a superior Gene Clark release. Both have their moments. If your giftee prefers cozy campfire vibes, then White Light it is. If your target

Is this where I start the obligatory Blindness-was-an-awesome-read thread? Can anyone advise if Seeing is worth a look?

Nice list! Your top 25 and my top 25 aren't identical, but I'm more similar to you than anyone else's list I've seen here. Post-rock on.

Yup, the total shut out of Ariel Pink love is inexcusable. That is a major favorite in my world. So many incredible songs, hooks, laughs, pukes, then a challenging ambient drone to cap it off.
