@IWBD - I don't disagree. I too fell in love with the characters over the first two seasons (which are probably my favorite), which has allowed me to follow them through the rest of the seasons. And although I love sci-fi, there's just something about Season 4 on that could have been a bit better.

We were joking that Alt-Claire probably wished she had met Jack before they knew they were siblings. Could have had an Osmond level of sexual tension that the writers have decided not to exploit.

My wife cried, but I was strangely impassive. I think one of the weaknesses of this show has been that during roughly the first half of the run (up through mid-season 3) they couldn't push the plot too far forward, and so the show was extremely character focused, at times to the detriment of the story.
