I remember, back when I was applying to college, I read a list of scholarships and there was one being awarded to write an essay about Atlas Shrugged. A scholarship, involving Ayn Rand.
I never found its meta-humorous take on slasher films nearly as clever as everyone else seems to. There are clever ways to 'hang a lampshade' on tropes and conventions but these movies beat you over the head with the message of "Look, subversion!!"

I haven't really liked anything they've done since WATT. The desire for reinvention is fine but for me their turn away from post-hardcore has just meant they dropped the loud/soft dynamics and all the songs sort of plod along. I'll check this out but that "Magnets in a Metal Heart" song didn't grab me in any way like…
