Star Trek has taken a tumble in its second weekend as well (which is a shame, since I enjoyed it and it seemed to be taking the franchise in the right direction), while the latest Bourne film is doing great business. Conclusion? Some movies succeed, others don't. Dunno why.

I made the mistake of picking up At the Mountains of Madness as my first Lovecraft. I gave up after the 79th time he said the mountains looked like Roerich paintings.

Yet there is a lot less action in the latter. Interesting how much tone matters when it comes to these things.
As much as I love Fury Road, I agree about the grit vs. gloss. I also prefer stories that don't have worldwide implications. Fury Road is about saving a whole nation, whereas Road Warrior is about a fight for a small patch of land in the middle of the desert. Don't know why, but those kind of stories always appealed…
