The series gets just as good from that episode in my opinion. Even in the new episodes Netflix made. However his performance in that episode is a standout that would be hard to argue against being the series best.

Whist I am certainly sad that one of the most complete and perfect storytelling games I have ever had the pleasure to play in my entire life is now going to get interrupted with a sequel. I am still very giddy to come back to these characters and experience more with them.

I think that ending is completely amazing, however it is forever changed by a sequel to it. How it is changed is certainly going to be up to how the sequel plays out.
