In any event, I think the writers will at least try to give us some answers about Christian. As I've posted in the past, I've recently completed a fullblown S1-S5 rewatch, and I was shocked to the extent that it DOES appear that the writers have known what they were doing. In that light, Christian is too important

I'm not sure I agree that that was clearly Smokey, but I agree that the evidence you cite does indeed support the inference.

And, I would add, it's a big enough deal to deserve a reasoanbly certain resolution. It's NOT one of the "little" questions that the writers are entitled to blow off.

Agreed - if Christian turns out to "just" be Smokey, it would be a fairly major continuity/consistency problem. Consider:

I think there's a lot of evidence that Jacob is not one and the same with the Island, and that there are forces greater than Jacob and/or Smokey at work on the Island.
