I likened the sudden switches to third person to a movie suddenly going letterbox to play up a climactic moment. It certainly worked on me in those cases.

Al was such a commanding presence in the beginning of the book that it made me really sad to see him become what he did by the end. His presence really livened up some slow patches for me. In a way I actually felt kind of betrayed by him, to learn as he conceded more and more control to Arty that the boisterous…
My two cents for the "authors we hate" thread: I just stopped reading A Wolf at the Table dead in my tracks halfway through upon the realization that I can no longer stomach Augusten Burroughs. Thank God I only checked it out from the library so I can just return it.
Walken Tall, if you replace Ellen Page with Abigail Breslin, you've got one of my grudges. Smug little bitch seems too whip-smart for her own good, and she seems to land roles that only reinforce that.
Question
By the end of the week, do you mean Friday or Saturday? If Friday I'll probably miss out on the live chat aspect due to work, but I still read the book and I have to say it was a great read. Difficult at some points, breezy at others.
Jim Jarmusch + Ted Danson = white hair overload
That smell is the smoke coming off of Eddie Hazel's fingers during the GOYA&J solo. Rarely are 212-minute songs so epic.
Have no fear! MacFunk is here!
Man, I was hoping someone around here would show love for that California Dreamin' cover. I will second its tremendousness.
I read CBtD when it was new, but I was probably only 17 or 18 at the time and I didn't really internalize very much of what I read when I was a kid, so I ought to read it again, because I have a vague sense that I had a lot of fun reading it.

looks like Devin Ratray. In fact I'm a little disappointed that it's not.
I recently retired my six-year-old LJ but didn't delete it. I just don't write in it anymore, although I'm friends with some very intelligent people who do, so it's nice to pop in on their stuff still.
The Injury popped my Office cherry. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital myself.
I can only occasionally enjoy Scrubs now. I was really into it there for a while, but then it hit syndication and began airing about 40 times a day across six different channels, and that's when I got burned out on it.
At first I read the entry for Shorts as that the bullied 11-year-old was being played by Jimmy Buffett. I was like, "Wow, nice range!" and then reread it and disappointed myself.
Riff's last post would make an awesome movie.
I like assorted Wilco songs outside of Sky Blue Sky, but SBS is the only album of theirs that I've heard in its entirety. Most of it was forgettable but I loved the Shake It Off/Please Be Patient With Me/Hate It Here trifecta . I'll try to get a minor Wilco education from the many praises dropped in this topic, but…
Shut the fuck up, Donny, you're out of your element.
Speaking of Polar Express, why do movies based on Chris Van Allsburg material always suck? He is such a brilliant illustrator, and yet stuff like PE and Jumanji just doesn't translate. Ah well, at least my favorite Allsburg book (The Z Was Zapped) is practically unmovieifyable.
I referenced this at work the other day and someone got it and it completely made my day.
