I remember after seeing the movie a few times, I read an interview w/ Linklater, and he he said he deliberately set the movie after Vietnam but pre-disco.

I enjoyed this analysis.

The factory itself.

Yes, mostly.

Also, prior to Husker Du, Bob Mould pitched for the A's.

I thought of Double Nickels not being the best gateway, too.

I found fIREHOSE albums to be diminishing returns, but maybe my tastes simply evolved in a different direction.

Heuvos is unsung (no pun intended about Kirt's early vocalizing there). It doesn't have as much of the high-low-but-inconsistent aspect that a lot of Puppets albums do.

I prefer UOTS to Meat Puppets II, also, personally and as a gateway.

Seems to come out of left field (or right field, if you happen to be lefthanded), but I bet I could find 37 AV interview subjects in '11 that were more likely to make me say, "AV Club is interviewing (X) F-ing (Y)?"

It's a Terrible Life.

Next thing you know, History Channel will abandon its history programming.

You misspelled it. It's "Lymp Bizquick."

It sure seems like it.

That was when Wheel of Fortune finally jumped the shark. Again.

Have hoisted the flag.

"I'll climb up on the house/weep to water the trees."
That line alone is more profound that 90 percent of all profound song lyrics.

"Alien Lanes" is still my favorite _ and your analysis that it "came together" is the reason.

"I Am a Tree" was supposedly the lo-fi arena-rock moment for GBV (or so the reviews said before I got the album). It was killer the first 2 times, but it didn't hold up to repeated listens.

I'll fight you on that.
