Historically, perhaps. As far as essentials (in a Gateways to Geekery/"Where to Start") — not really.
It's Cyclical.
I would put "Move Like This" by The Cars on a list – perhaps not Top 25, but List of Pleasant Surprises.
I'm going to guess, six months from now (maybe even a year) "The Whole Love" will strike you differently.
"Twelve Days of Christmas" is hard to beat for awfulness.

It's unfairly overrated, but "understandably" overrated.
Monkees & Beatles definitely not comparable as far as overall impact, influence and hugeness.
But the top 40 has long had shit-that-passes-for-music. It's just the way it goes.
