My theory is that they wanted what the Golden Globes had with Ricky Gervais, because he did bring the funny. BUT they didn't want Gervais himself, because he pissed too many people off. So they tried what they thought would be the next best thing: Seth MacFarlane.

Any show whose characters base decision making on what Bob Ross will do next is worth the VanDerWerff treatment.

Yeah, I thought the whole point of the show was that Mark's irredeemable and gets constantly come-upped. Or whatever the verb form of comeuppance is. (Comeuppanced?)
