I was just reading about how Charlton Heston and even the actress who played Zira (and also Stella in _Streetcar_) were both keen on their characters getting killed off so they could avoid "having" to participate in more Apes sequels. My question: Why the hurry? What's so bad about being locked into a franchise?

I watched the Cyndi Lauper video recently and it's crazy—it's the same synergy that corporations still chase today, but the specifics look absurd now.
