I'm surprised everyone is praising Event Horizon. I thought it was a good 2/3rds of a film, followed by a terribly disappointing final 1/3rd.

the other vampires
I'd like to heap some praise on the other vampires, as well. They don't get any lines, but all exude a lot more energy and character than the human actors in the film, and do it without a lick of background or anything. Well done, Canadian extras!

The opening sequence of the first Jeepers Creepers is fantastic. (Up until the kids enter the pipe.) Unfortunately, the rest of the movie follows.

Zombie Feynman has it right (and nice xkcd reference, too.) Degree or no degree, these guys are scientists, who enjoy the occasional explosion. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Count me in with Jonathan, danrimage, and the other supporters above. It's by no means high cinema, but Gattaca is a good, enjoyable film, and well-put together. I often recommend it to non-scifi fans as scifi done right for everyone.
