Stag is far and away my favorite of the three. It sees the band begin to experiment with different instrumentation and production techniques. ("Bar X-The Rocking M" has perhaps the rippingest trombone solo ever put to a metal song.) It's the band's general aesthetic condensed into one album, summarizing their sound up

Not technically in July, but Third Man Records just this week released vinyl reissues of the Melvins' long-out-of-print Atlantic Records albums, Houdini, Stoner Witch and Stag. I always recommend those three to anyone wanting to know where to start with the Melvins.

Sad to see these reviews go. I'd have followed them more closely if Netflix hadn't pulled BSG from streaming.

I'm a huge fan of this band and go to their shows whenever they come through town, but … and it pains me to say this … I am NOT liking the production on what I've heard from this record so far. The mix sounds like they dropped the master tapes in the toilet beforehand. That being said, I will probably shell out $10
