I guess I'm confused as to why Todd couldn't just write a review that actually discussed what happened and then post it as soon as the episode ended.

There's an interview that Andy Greenwald did with David Beinoff & D.B. Weiss last week where the one of the Ds says "themes are for eighth grade book reports." I really don't think that they care about constructing episodes around a given theme. Which isn't to say you can't find one if you're looking for it.
