That's interesting. I know we're trying to focus on DS9 here, but I disagree that Picard scorned religion. He, like seemingly most of the Federation, demonstrated their tolerance by simply ignoring it. Really, though, it was probably just not a topic the writers were interested in addressing, given Roddenberry's Box.
