Hmmmm seems like no one's heard of a little band we call TRIUMPH?!?

Actually they put out one of their best ever albums in 2012, so…

Well this isn't helping alleviate my Linda Cardellini crush one little bit.

I've watched the climactic rap battle several times now, and every time they cut from Mylene and the girls finishing the Anthem to the Get Down Crew stalking the stage to the Star Wars intro I get chills. What a great final scene.

Pulp Fiction, both the movie and soundtrack, is one of THE Gen X cultural signifiers. EVERYONE played this relentlessly in college

Great points, and I agree with your final assessment there

I've thought about that a lot watching the first six episodes. I think they may be somewhat anachronistic with the rapping styles. Most of the early rap stuff was like, "My name is ____ and I'm here to say" right on the beat. No one started really flowing across the beat until maybe Rakim in the mid 80's

Just wanted to note that Sean Cassidy's record was my first too, in 76 when I was like four. Pretty cool

*Chris Farley voice*

I just couldn't see him as anything but the spitting image of 50 Cent

So, my teenage kid watched a little bit of this with me and then immediately pegged Shao as the crazy dude from Incredible Crew, a short lived (but much loved, at least by my kids) sketch show on Cartoon Network. I scoffed at it, even cracked an "all black guys look alike to you?" joke, then checked imdb…and damn if

Same. I actually like this more than Stranger Things which I'm finding s little bit overrated. Just a little.

And fwiw, just finished the second episode, and I'm all in.

It's been a while since I've seen such polar responses to a show from critics and fans. I guess a lot depends on how you feel about Lhurrman. I was surprised that he was the person who's gonna tell this story, but , overall, the first episode worked for me.

"Drown" by Son Volt came on the radio at the same time every morning as I would drive to school during my first year as a teacher.

Was coming here to post this - I'm 44 and grew up in Athens so REM is inextricably linked with my life. There was a while there that I wished their career ended with "Electrolyte" and Stipe singing "I'm out of here"

The Phantom Menace poster with tiny Anakin showing the Vader shadow was freaking incredible.

Or an old, crashed Star Destroyer slowly revealed in the sand

Most versions cut out that last fight. Paris still plays a role, though…Lord Capulet moves Juliet's wedding up to make her "happy" after he sees her "grief" over Tybalt's death (which is really her grief at her new husband being exiled).

I know this movie backwards and forwards….as an English teacher for 20+ years, I've shown it a million times.
