These lists do tend to favor new shows (note the placement of beloved chestnuts like Louie and Bob's Burgers) but I also think OITNB is the type of show that made such a splash when it debuted because of how unique and fresh it felt that it could never possibly respark those feelings, even though I agree that S2 was

Honestly, this list is a good example of why I keep coming back to the AV Club despite the constant turnover. Most of the critics' list I've seen are top 10 lists that basically only praise one genre of TV (prestige cable dramas) leaving lots of genuinely great shows out of the picture. It's nice to see all types of

Tina seems like the last Update anchor that had bite. Amy was good, but she's really more of a character actress. Seth was competent, definitely a lot better than the current desk, but never anything special. He excelled most in his interaction with the correspondents.

Seriously, what the hell happened to this site? I feel like ever since NuDisqus it's been open season for assholes to come and roast writers for stupid reasons.

I know him as a regular guest on The Chris Gethard Show.

Yeah I have no idea why Fox aired Christmas episodes of the Sunday block this week when there's still new episodes next week. Fox is weird.

Yeah I've never gotten the King of the Hill comparison. King of the Hill was a full on animated sitcom. Not much about it couldn't be done if it was live action. Bob's Burgers is more grounded than the MacFarlane shows but it's still pretty cartoonish. I would say its reality is about on par with The Simpsons.

I really cannot imagine a scenario where anyone thought that godawful Al Sharpton opening was better than this.

Critics seem to have a bias towards animation in general. It was a great year for TV animation and it's not represented on that list.

These end of year lists remind me how boring a lot of critics' tastes are, honestly. Sooooo many prestige anti-hero shows. Sure, lots of them are great, but there's more to TV than that, though you wouldn't know it from a lot of these lists.

There's people dyin', oh, people dyin' in the street
Me and my family are warm tonight

To be fair, I feel like Mulaney's multi-cam set-up is a little bit less forgiving of acting mistakes.

This show is kind of on a hot streak right now, isn't it? The past two episodes have been the two very best episodes of the show, in my opinion. Feels like it's finally hitting that stride of greatness that it never *quite* got to in S1…although maybe I'm in the minority with that opinion.

I've had some issues with this in the past but ultimately this show is such a ridiculous cartoon that has so little bearing on reality that I've decided I can brush it off.

Honestly I was really thrown the first time I watched this episode, but it improved so much for me on repeat viewings. I feel this way a lot about Season 8 episodes actually. It's a season that takes a lot of risks that don't always work, but their audacity is really impressive.

Yeah there is certainly a way to critique a critic respectfully but most of the time it just seems to amount to "WAAAH THEY DON'T AGREE WITH ME."

I agree and I think a lot of people do, there's just a small minority of people here that like to throw a temper tantrum when a reviewer doesn't agree with them about a show. It seems to mostly happen with divisive HBO dramas.

I'm not really surprised. I think NBC wrongfully assumed that everyone tuned into The Sound of Music because they loved the art of seeing live theater performed on TV rather than just because they liked Carrie Underwood.

Eh, kind of. Helms was annoying but that doesn't necessarily equal "let's break into these files and steamroll all over the case despite the fact that it's my friend's and she told me not to." But at least the show punished him for it.

I wasn't really a huge fan of this one, Ed Helms was…too much, and Jake's behavior felt a little reductive and early S1-esque. But it had its moments.
