I don't need it to be about race every week, but I do need it to be more original than "dad has trouble having the sex talk with teenage son." But it's only episode 2 so I'm not too worried yet.

Wasn't there a Modern Family episode where the kids walked in on the parents doing it doggie style? That kind of stuff was taboo in the '80s maybe, but it's not really anymore. If anything it's kind of hokey now.
There was a lot of frustratingly sitcom-y stuff about this episode (why didn't Rainbow just ask her daughter to repeat what she said like any normal human being would do? why is this stuff always such a big deal on sitcoms?) but it was still funny enough that I'm not *too* worried. I hope it doesn't just stick to…
Yeah, I liked this better than the premiere. I don't really expect a lot out of South Park these days, just some good laughs, and this provided.
Yeah I was sort of hoping we got a season that put more of a magnifying glass on the remaining study group members rather than introducing more new characters. I liked Hickey but one of the reasons I felt the back stretch of S5 suffered was because they were prioritizing him over the actual study group members, which…
YAAAAY
I still prefer Bob's Burgers, but I wouldn't argue with anyone that would pick B99.
Continuing with the RTD-ish feel of this season, I think this episode felt like a really good RTD episode, with a lot of extremely interesting and thought-provoking analysis of how the Doctor interferes with the companions' regular lives (something the RTD era touched upon a lot). Along with a pretty bland alien…
Yeah, the people who use "ha! gaaaay" are kind of completely missing the joke.
To me it was a very good show out of the gate that more or less stayed at that level. Which is nothing to sneeze at, but since it got off to such a good start I expected it to turn into something amazing and I never really thought it did (but again, it comes very close and hopefully my opinion changes this year.)
I actually liked the Gina/Boyle stuff better than the Jake/Amy stuff. There's an absurdity to Gina and Boyle that makes you not take them too seriously. Jake/Amy is pretty standard sitcom will they/won't they fare so far.
In Season 1 I felt like B99 was a very good show that never quite made it to a great one, and it kinda fell off my radar when a bunch of truly great cable comedies sprang up over the break.
I really liked that character, but she had already run her course by the time Cecily was promoted to anchor so I wasn't especially sad to see her go. And her return tonight was pretty uninspiring.
This was a pretty bad premiere, but there were some saving graces:
She could take some lessons for sure.
Broad City and You're the Worst are definitely my two favorite new comedies of the season. I prefer Broad City just slightly but it's really close.
For Our Consideration: You're the Worst succeeds at being the show The Mindy Project wants to be
Happy birthday Lloyd!!
Voiceovers are my least favorite single-cam crutch. I really don't need the entire point of the episode explained to me.
It skews hilariously old. New Harry's Law!
