Sorkin is one of the few writers I can think of where I just have a 'maximum ability to tolerate' level that can't be overcome - maybe it's just that he involves his personal issues in his writing more obviously than most. I have this theory that whatever Sorkin show one likes best is inevitably the first one they see

My mom's boss's son was briefly on America's Got Talent - he was somehow shocked to realize he was one of the joke acts. His thing is that he balances stuff on his face, from a whole bunch of chairs to (most unnervingly) a running lawnmower. They played hillbilly music during his whole bit.

Man, that's kind of depressing. I'm not Bourdain's biggest fan, but his take on the travel show is really engaging and different, and CNN sucks the interesting out of everything it touches.

I think it's primarily a marketing thing - build word of mouth and anticipation, make sure it's catching on with audiences enough to make the wide release worth it, that kind of thing. DVR viewings are compiled, and ones within 24 hours are often reported as an additional ratings indicator, as are the +7 (or within one week). But they aren't part of the initial ratings estimate which are purely the Nielsen projections based on their sample group's viewing habits, so they tend to get less attention.

I thought she was really out of place at first, but by the end of the season she had started to fit in to the show's particular kind of insanity pretty well. Maybe it was just that she didn't really work when combined with Liz - I'm glad they dropped the Single White Female plotline.

Ha, so getting Kim Kardashian for the second live show *was* a joke about the West Coast. I totally suspected.

I haven't seen all the Awake episodes, but the premise leads me to suspect the twist is that neither reality is real, and in fact he was the only one injured in the car crash and has been in a coma since then. (Or he's been in a coma and both family members are dead, possibly.)

There's a small minority who avoid anything above-PG-rated. Harry Potter, for instance, obviously had A LOT of explicit stuff posted associated with it, and most people who were involved had no problem with that. But some people did object on the standard 'won't somebody think of the children' line - understandable

@avclub-10d40c7415bbe87b03c68abf902329a3:disqus There was a study a few years ago, if I remember correctly, that said that men's arousal response tends to be triggered by visual input more strongly than women's, which could account for more women going to text-oriented porn than men. (I would cite, but it's probably
