As far as websites go, I had to get far away from The Huffington Post. They started out OK, but as time went on I got really sick of the GIANT HEADLINES, 'actress steps out in sheer gown' stuff, and bullshit alternative medicine articles.

@rob, that's what we in the business call an Appeal To Authority. Just 'cause Ketch calls it that on occasion, don't make it so. I'm saying that 'roots music' is a bullshit phrase that describes nothing, and attempts to encompass everything. What about that, other than hiding behind Ketch, do you disagree with?

CCD (phenomenal, agreed) is also an old-timey string band. "Roots music" is just a catch-all, lazy term for music that isn't "current", or uses pre-electric instrumentation. It's sort of an NPR-ification, a simplifying of what are in fact diverse, wide-ranging styles of music.

Gah. OCMS is not a bluegrass band, people. They're an old-time string band. Have you listened to any of that stuff from back then? It's FULL of corny humor, aw-shucks, etc. Wonderful. And they called it 'old-timey' back in the 20's, too.

I've been a big-time downloader since 1998. But I don't listen to modern music at all, really. Blind Blake, Uncle Dave Macon, Django Rheinhardt etc. don't lose anything by me downloading their stuff. They're dead.
