Christian Rock concert goers may not get freaky, but they do get freak-ay.

I think that's true. I felt kind of uncomfortable after I finished the first chapter, because I felt like I had somehow gone against my morals.

1) He hated norms.

I think Arty's charisma comes from the idea of Arturism, not the other way around. If he was just a normal kid, physically speaking, he wouldn't be able to do anything. But he has flippers which is remarkably outside the realm of normality. One of the themes of the novel is that people want to be different. They want

I nominate the paperback edition of this
For worst cover ever. It's a pretty stupid cover to begin with, but add to it that, with the font and the title, it makes it look like it's a romance novel by William Gibson, it's just so bad.

My copy's only 349 pages…

I disagree here. I think he's a really interesting character (though yes he probably could have been developed better). The way he loves to help life, to make things better, he even loves the mold from behind Arty's balls, but is forced to destroy so much, and really in the end, it just breaks him, I loved it.

I would agree with you completely if it weren't for the first chapter. That first scene seems so…I don't know. It feels like one of the reminiscing episodes of the Simpsons. In that scene, I feel like they are great parents.

Yeah, I was confused about that part of this article as well. Arturism seems like a pretty central theme to the novel, and I think part of there's a little mystery surrounding it at the end is because the story is told by Oly, who knew some details but was still in the dark on others, and everyone who knew all the

One of the sweetest moments in the book, I felt, was the simple "Thank You" and "You're Welcome" exchange between Lil and Oly at the end.

Exactly. I feel like the first chapter dispensed of any idea that what they did was morally wrong in Oly's eyes (even though I'd say it was morally wrong). It seems like Arty and Oly feel that it was a favor rather than a curse, while the Twins and possibly Chick feel the opposite. The twins and Chick are damned by

I was working today and missed Donna's article
But I just wanted to say that while a lesser novel might have focused on the negative moral implications of genetically mutating a group of children for profit, resulting directly in several deaths and miscarriages, Dunn manages to keep Geek Love out of that territory,

Dr. Demento! MONSTER MASH!

I'm 200 pages in.
It's great. Hope I have time to finish this weekend.

Or is that Udder? I always mix those up.

Utter Hero?

Now DJ Hero
That, I'll play

@Josh Join us. It's down right now and I can't look anyone up.

Yeah, Winslet and DiCaprio went on to do much better things afterwards. Everyone else went on to do pretty much nothing.
