I think it does decent ratings, has a niche, and is clearly run by crazy cinephiles who will never let it become anything else.  I mean it's basically two guys hosting every show.

It did also coincide with their smart original programming (Carpica, Alphas, Eureka) starting to get thrown under the bus as the bullshit cheesy movies became more and more prevalent.

They did do that WWII in HD series, so I guess sometimes History does creep its way back in.

TCM is one of the few places still sticking to their programming model and thank God for that.
