I feel more lucky now than ever that I got to see that play.  And by all accounts he was one of the kindest people in the business, which makes it all the sadder.  http://www.vulture.com/2013… is a great piece on the writer's encounters with him.

"pulled my quadraceps"

Let's toss Ian McShane in there as well.

"your stupid fucking daughter fell down because she can't climb.  you should probably come get her or whatever." *lights cigarette*.  That'd be how I'd do it.

Oh yeah, definitely exaggeration.  But you can definitely see how she would feel like she has few true friends, and in that moment Lindsay has been there for her.

Oh yeah.  Of course this person would seem so cool to a Teenager.  They lived a free rock and roll life.  No parents, totally wild.  Totally the opposite of her shitty mother, etc.

Even more devastating, the "You are my only friend Lindsay!" moment which is just fucking heartbreaking.

It depends on the size of the betrayal and whether or not apologies were made.  We've all been shitty to each other.  But I agree.  I still get mad when I think about some of them.  I'm 29 now and have an amazing group of new friends, why would I still care?  Because it's not right.

I hated her the second she stepped on screen.  "I cheated on my boyfriend so he understandably broke up with me so I'm going to make everyone else's lives hell."

My Dad has opened the door to let friends over to my house in a shirt and no pants or underwear.

My personal story about this is when I would go visit my best friend's house.  His mother was super religious.  So either we'd have to go to church, or she'd make them read the Bible while the parents were at church (I guess she eventually realized dragging her son's friend to church when he isn't religious is kinda

But that's the thing isn't it?  Liking Journey WAS cool at the time.  All the popular kids of my generation STILL belt out Bon Jovi and shit at bars.

I laughed hard because my Mom is named Kathy and all my cousins always talk about how much they love her.  Though my Mom was definitely not on Kojak.

And it's not like the Weirs are perfect parents either.  Nobody is.

That's how you read it?  I know she wasn't really sticking up for him but for herself but I didn't get the impression she had no idea who he was.

I think I'm a little less cynical about adolescence than Todd.  Yes these betrayals happen and yes Lindsay probably won't be a "freak" forever.  But I also know people who got into good schools and got good jobs who don't act that much different from Nick and Daniel, or who, like LIndsay, are smart and hard working

I found the ending pretty epic on its own.  Everything Shadow goes through on the tree, the little flashes of battle we do get, the realization Shadow has about his connection to the land, riding a fucking THUNDERBIRD.  For me it was more than enough.

ok

Soon?  It hasn't been long since the 2nd one.

The meandering is exactly the reason I love it so.  The first time I read it I was definitely waiting and waiting for this big ass war, but the reason I keep coming back to it is the big world he created, all the digressions and characters.
