Because then only geeks like us (AV club-type people) would watch them and they wouldn't get a chance to make that sweet, sweet HBO money or whatever… To do justice to this, you'd probably need a big-ish budget, but I think the audience for an animated show would be small enough that it wouldn't be worth it.
