The Royal Book of Oz was originally billed as a final collection of miscellanea by Baum, but I think that was the original concept; they just decided to go with an original story instead.

Damn it, you posted it first!

Amazing how the outrage never reaches that point, right?

… so the lesson is that the people you bullied in high school became rich and powerful?

Oh, absolutely - I mean, look how he talks about the wonder of small films, and heaps scorn on "sci-fi fantasies" made by psuedo-filmaker "entities".
I'm sorry, what upcoming movies are Harrison Ford starring in again?

He's not Brando-level of bad - yet - but you know what?  It's his job.  And he's well-off enough that he can fucking turn down a movie offer.  So, no, I don't particularly feel sorry for him.

Except the video game.  Goddamn it, you leave the video game out of it!

Fred Durst, ladies and gentlemen!

Really?  The only impression I got watching "What Was Missing" was that they were once close friends that grew apart.

He did a much better job of capturing Lovecraft with the Nemo LoEG story.

Primarily going to dance clubs dominated by goths, I can appreciate the sentiment of the song.

That was the first Lollapalooza, right?  Yeah, I went to that - a smaller venue would've been better, but as far as living in the cultureless wastelands of Central Florida that particular lineup was somewhat of a godsend.

Absolutely, and only when they objected because they didn't want the characters to be irrecoverably changed that Moore when with the pastiches, IIRC (an odd sentiment for DC's non-continuity, but whatever). Maybe that's what made it good.  Then again, there's been plenty of example of writers with their "own take"

Except that the source material isn't the movie, it's the graphic novel series.

You'll probably want to steer clear of the Church of the Subgenius, then.

But thanks to the Venture Brothers, I now know that L Ron was for real.  But also an evil villain.

"more profit in…"  Thanks, that had me laughing non-stop.

Let's then acknowledge that, as complicated creatures us humans are, that we can have multiple motivations.  Artists quite obviously want (with the usual exceptions) their art to be viewed or read.
But the primary motivation of "Before Watchmen" - indeed, overshadowing any other aspect of it - is to cash in on

Last I heard, he was chuckling as he cashed his check for the upcoming Sin City movie.

Or original garbage like Transformers! … wait, okay, Battleship!  No?  Okay, World War Z!
  And so on.
