“Because from that time on, no one will know if I’m lying or telling the truth.” There's volumes of things that Tim Burton failed to understand about Wonka, and why the whole story works the way it does, but really, this is the big one.

While I am not yet prepared to call Tom Holland a National Treasure, I am prepared to call him a Goddamn Delight.

Da Ditkaparted

Took a break from Pynchon's Bleeding Edge to burn through Justin Cronin's final book in The Passage trilogy, The City of Mirrors. (I believe he stuck the landing, though it took a bit of patience for me to get through the first 291 pages.) Currently at the midpoint of Matt Gallagher's Iraq War novel Youngblood, which

"Against The Wind", Bob Seger. I never gave much thought to this song until recently. I turned 47 this year, I have two great kids, I found the right woman (reconnected with The One Who Got Away when I was in my twenties) after my shitty marriage ended, I still surf and play the occasional game of rugby, I have a

Mojo Nixon was not entirely correct: Michael J. Fox does have some Elvis in him.

The "Battlestar: Galactica" series finale still fills me with a white-hot rage every time I think about it.

Late to the dance, but this is what bothered me: in the flashback, Theo appears to have seen Rebecca's plans, so he knows that she is working on some sort of Utopian Village. Wakes up in said Village and still does not appear to have made the connection. This seems like lazy writing.

I finally watched "What We Do" last night. Damn, that movie did so much with so little.

Thankee-sai for covering this, Sam.

For me, Enjoyable Mess. The leads are all really good, the humor's there, and it's probably about the closest we'll come to a good Pynchon adaptation. (The question, of course, is "but did someone really need to try?")

About halfway through Pynchon's "Bleeding Edge" - enjoying it much more than "Inherent Vice" (thought that seeing the movie would tilt the scales towards "Vice", but nope). Then it's on to Justin Cronin's "The City of Mirrors". Fingers crossed he sticks the landing.

Musician: Mason Jennings. It pleases me that I live in San Diego, where the dude-bros have glommed on to G Love and Jack Johnson, and I only know three people (including my fiance) who are fans of Jennings.

In Soviet Russia, Horn of Eld blows YOU.

The Schonfro abides.

Sounds like something that Douglas Adams might've written. I'm in as well.

Some of the folks I work with recently discovered that my company's director of content spent about a month writing for Vice Sports under the moniker "Chris Collision". These days he spends his time trolling the people who work for him (and occasionally his boss) on Twitter. He is a cautionary tale for Annoying

I'll go ahead with the "why not just reboot the franchise with another actor" musing. (Michael Fassbender, playing Indy in his 1930's prime, if you care.)
