Great story, Dad! Tell it again! Tell it again!
Obligatory "Real Life Brian Wilson Encounter" Story
A few years ago, I stopped into Jerry's Deli in the valley, around 11:00 at night, and he sat at the table next to mine, alone. He ate a bowl of split pea soup. Very, very slowly.

Oh, the movie's terrible; great swordfight scene, but that's about it. And Reed was a portly fellow; if memory serves, Flashy was described as a tall, athletic type. Jude Law would be a good choice for a reboot.
McDowell as Flashman
Perfect casting, and it's still amazing to me that the first novel in the series (terrific, by the way) wasn't the movie that was made. "Royal Flash" is easily one of the weakest installments. Ah, what could have been - Malcolm McDowell playing Flashy for the duration of the series, filmed…
Well, there's the snickering every time someone says "Dick". And…uh…

In real life I'm a surfer, and yeah, objectively speaking, "Riding Giants" is not a great film by any stretch - but the footage of the Cortes Bank seamount and Laird Hamilton at Teachupo'o is truly awe-inspiring and terrifying to anyone who's paddled out.
Actually, I'd say the lowpoint came with the "Remembrance of The Daleks" episode that, via the magic of horrifically bad blue-screening, revealed that Daleks can float/fly.

The whole mythology thing was weird. Pitch Black had the vibe of a realistic, "lived-in Universe", like what Ridley Scott, James Cameron, et. al. did with the "Alien" movies. Then CoR comes along and it's like a Dune sequel.
